Pass it along!

Out of all the dessert options, ice cream is my favorite. When we got married, a good friend got us this ice cream maker, and it’s been one of the most used gifts that we got. Who knew making homemade ice cream was so easy?!

We started with vanilla ice cream and soon began to experiment. Blueberry, chocolate, and even more interesting options like springtime dandelion ice cream.

After harvesting hundreds of peaches last summer and freezing a good chunk of them, we’ve been loving peach recipes all year-round. Peach crumble, peach cobbler, and now peach ice cream are some of our favorites.

Grab a few peaches (fresh or frozen) and let’s dive in!

Ingredients and Equipment for Peach Ice Cream

Ingredients:

Peaches – Nothing beats a fresh, juicy peach, and they are delightful in this recipe. But frozen peaches work great too and make a refreshing treat in the off season!

Sugar – Either white sugar or brown sugar works well in this recipe. We’ve used both organic cane sugar and sucanat, and both are delicious.

Sea Salt – We love Redmond’s Real Salt.

Cream – Get the real deal, cream for this recipe. Not half and half, not whole milk—cream. That’s going to help to create a super creamy ice cream.

Milk – While this recipe uses mostly cream, we add a little bit of whole milk as well.

Vanilla Extract – Vanilla extract is essential in homemade ice cream for 2 reasons. One, the alcohol in it prevents the ice cream from freezing, helping to give it that smooth, creamy texture. Two, nothing beats the flavor vanilla extract adds.

Tapioca Starch or Corn Starch (Optional) – I’ve noticed a big difference in the texture of ice cream since adding a bit of tapioca starch to it. Tapioca starch is a thickener and stabilizer that can help to create a rich mouthfeel and keep ice crystals from forming.

Equipment:

There are 2 important pieces of equipment to successfully make this peach ice cream.

  1. Blender. Any blender will do this trick. We are partial to our Vitamix that we’ve had for over a decade now, and is a mainstay in our homestead kitchen.
  2. Ice Cream Maker. This is a churn recipe, so you do need an ice cream maker. There are a lot of fancy makers out there that I’m sure are wonderful. We’ve had this basic Cuisinart Ice Cream Maker for 17 years now, and it still works great.

How To Make Peach Ice Cream

Making this homemade peach ice cream recipe is as easy as blending, pouring into your ice cream maker, and letting the magic happen. No tempering eggs, no heating cream, no thawing peaches. Just blend, and you are on your way.

Gather all ingredients and place them into the container of your blender.

Blend on high power until everything is smooth and creamy.

Turn on your ice cream maker, then pour the contents of the blender into your ice cream machine (make sure your ice cream bowl is completely frozen).

Tip: Make sure to turn on the ice cream machine first before pouring. It’s possible for the contents to start freezing before the churning begins and jam up the machine.

After 20-30 minutes in the ice cream maker, you’ll have thick, creamy peach ice cream. At this point, eating the ice cream would be more similar to a soft serve texture. To get a firm, scoopable ice cream, freeze for at least 6-8 hours before serving.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can you make this without an ice cream maker?

Unfortunately, no. This peach ice cream recipe is best made in an ice cream maker.

My ice cream never got thick, what’s going on?

In our experience, whenever this has happened, the reason was because the ice cream bowl that goes into your ice cream maker wasn’t cold enough. Keep it in the back of your freezer to ensure that it is plenty cold for successful ice cream making.
