What is Peach Sauce?
When I think of peach sauce, I think of the peach version of applesauce. In fact, it makes a great swap for applesauce in recipes and it’s even delicious paired with pork chops.
You can make it smooth or chunky, add extra sugar or spices or omit them, and it’s always delicious!
Peach sauce is used as a condiment in many savory Asian or Chinese dishes (similarly to plum sauce), but also makes a delicious sweet sauce for dessert recipes.
What Do You Need to Make Peach Sauce?
The only ingredient is fresh peaches in this peach sauce.
However, you could also add in a tbsp or 2 of lemon juice to help preserve the peachy color and/or add cinnamon and cloves for a spiced peach sauce.
As far as equipment, you need a crock pot or Dutch oven as well as a high powered blender.
If you want to slow cook the peach sauce on the counter and avoid turning the oven on all day, a crockpot is what you’ll need.
We like to slow cook the peaches at around 200°F in our oven. So, with that method, a Dutch oven works great!
A high powered blender is needed to blend up the peaches after they are finished slow cooking. Because I prefer to keep the skin on the peaches to keep it quick and easy to make, and for the added nutrition of the peach skins, we use a Vitamix to pulverize those skins into a smooth, creamy texture, where the skins are unnoticeable.
How to Make Peach Sauce
Begin by gathering your peaches, as many as you have or will fill a Crock Pot or Dutch Oven.
Halve the peaches, remove pits, and place halved peaches in the slow cooker.
Once filled, slow cook the peaches for 8+ hours on low in a crockpot or 200°F in the oven. Another option would be to simmer the peaches on the stove on low heat, stirring regularly.
After the peaches have slow cooked all day (or night), they are ready to be blended.
Add peaches (skin and all) as well as the juice to the container of a high-powered blender (we love our Vitamix). Blend thoroughly until a smooth, creamy texture is achieved.
That’s it! You’ve made peach sauce. To preserve long term, can using a water bath canner or pressure canner.
Skins On or Off?
It’s up to you. We always leave the skins on our non-sprayed, organic peaches for a few reasons.
- It’s faster and easier!
- The skin contains a lot of nutrients. It’s full of antioxidants, polyphenols, as well as vitamins A and C.
