Easy Pizza Dough with Yogurt (4 Ingredients & 30 Minutes)
The perfect recipe when you need a meal on the table fast! This pizza dough with yogurt comes together in a couple of minutes and has only 4 basic ingredients. It’s our go to recipe for an easy weekday pizza night.
We love pizza around here. It’s a great way to use up the fresh veggies we are harvesting paired with that leftover serving or 2 of meat that needs to get eaten.
Depending on what our day looks like, we have a few different pizza recipes that we rely on.
For our slow, weekend, family pizza night, sourdough deep dish pizza is where its at.
If we have a solid hour, I’ll make this pizza dough with a quick rise yeast.
When I need a pizza crust that I can roll out in just a few minutes to get dinner on the table as soon as possible, we make this easy but still tasty pizza dough with yogurt.
Yogurt in Pizza Dough??
Yes, you read that correctly. This pizza dough is made with yogurt.
Yogurt along with flour, baking powder, and salt. That’s it!
The yogurt gives the dough moisture and combined with the flour creates a dough that can be easily rolled out and holds together when eating, even when heavily topped!
It may sound strange but it works! Plus, the addition of the yogurt adds more protein and nutrients to your pizza crust. And when you have a family milk cow, you try to incorporate dairy whenever you can!
What do you need to make pizza dough with yogurt?
With just a few basic ingredients you can make your own homemade pizza!
The Ingredients
Flour – All purpose flour would be standard but we prefer to grind our own flour. Lately, I’ve been making this with a soft white wheat berry that we grind in our Nutrimill Harvest. We love the bulk wheat berries from Azure Standard.
Baking Powder (aluminum free) – We usually get the Bob’s Red Mill brand or buy it from Azure Standard to get an aluminum free baking powder.
Plain Yogurt (Greek or regular) – Either Greek or regular plain yogurt will work in this recipe. We use our homemade yogurt that we make in the crockpot. If using a thicker Greek style yogurt, you likely won’t need to add much, if any, flour to your dough to make it ready to roll out. With our slightly thinner, homemade yogurt, I usually end up adding an extra 3-4 tablespoons of flour beyond the initial 2 cups to achieve a workable dough.
Sea Salt
How to make pizza dough with yogurt?
Begin by gathering all of the ingredients.
In a medium size mixing bowl, add flour, baking powder, and salt and mix together.
Add in yogurt and stir into flour mixture.
Once the yogurt is completely stirred in, assess whether or not you have a workable dough that you could pick up and roll out. If not, add more flour 1 tablespoon at a time until a workable dough is formed.
This recipe makes two 12” pizzas. My favorite way to make them is by rolling them out into preheated cast iron pans with a small amount of oil in them. When cast iron is seasoned and hot with a little bit of oil, they are completely non-stick.
If you aren’t using oil, you can roll them out on a pizza pan or stone lined with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat.
Place dough in the center of your pan. If the dough is at all sticky, sprinkle some flour over the top so it’s easier to work with.
Roll out dough. I use my hands for this when I’m making it in a cast iron skillet but if using a pizza pan, a rolling pin would work great too.
After your crust is rolled out, top with your favorite toppings.
In our house, we usually use a combination of pesto and tomato sauce topped with both shredded farmhouse cheddar and mozzarella and whatever meat and veggies we have on hand. Yum!
Bake the pizza at 400°F for 20 minutes.
How to store leftover pizza?
This pizza stores and reheats surprisingly well. Just keep in an airtight container in the fridge. To reheat, I like to warm in a 350-degree oven for 10-15 minutes until hot.
Because this pizza is so quick and easy to make, I’ve never tried freezing the crust. We just make and eat as needed!
