Applesauce Bread (Favorite Quick Bread Recipe!)
Whether it’s for breakfast, snack time, or as a dessert, this applesauce bread is a crowd pleaser every time. And it’s the quick bread I find myself making on repeat. This easy one-bowl recipe with basic ingredients is definitely one worth adding to your regular repertoire.

When we moved onto our homestead, one of the first things that we did was plant an orchard with 20 apple trees! Last year, we had our first big harvest! While we saved many for fresh eating or using in our favorite apple crumble or sweet potato apple hash, most were turned into applesauce and canned for the year ahead.
That’s when we started making this applesauce bread all the time, and it soon became a staple in our home.

Ingredients in Applesauce Bread and Substitutions
Butter or Coconut Oil
Granulated Sugar – I use sucanat for this from Azure Standard for a more minimally processed sugar option. You could also substitute white or brown sugar or a combination of the two.
Eggs

Unsweetened Applesauce – Making your own homemade applesauce is super easy if you find yourself with an abundance of apples. But any unsweetened applesauce will work. We love this Organic Honeycrisp Applesauce from Azure Standard.
Plain Yogurt – Greek or regular yogurt will work. We always use our homemade yogurt in this applesauce bread.
Flour – Our go-to is fresh ground flour in our Nutrimill using soft white wheat berries from Azure Standard. But any all purpose or gluten-free all purpose will work.

Baking Soda
Baking Powder (Aluminum Free) – Bob’s Red Mill brand or Azure Standard aluminum free baking powder are our favorite sources of this.
Cinnamon
Salt

How to Make Applesauce Bread
This applesauce bread is about as simple as it gets when it comes to baked goods.
Begin by greasing a 9×5” loaf pan (I love the glass Pyrex loaf pan) and preheating the oven to 350°F.
Mix together melted oil and sugar. Then add eggs and mix until smooth.

Stir in applesauce and yogurt with the other wet ingredients.

Next, add in the dry ingredients (flour, baking soda, baking powder, cinnamon, & salt) and mix until just incorporated.

Pro tip: Overmixing baked goods tends to make them dense. So for a lighter and fluffier texture, mix until just combined.
Pour batter into the prepared pan and bake for 45-55 minutes.

Wait 5-10 minutes before serving.
Quick Notes about Applesauce Bread
If you would prefer to make muffins, this recipe makes 12 muffins. Just change the cooking time to around 18 minutes.

Applesauce bread also freezes beautifully! I love to double this recipe to stick one in the freezer for later. Thaw before serving.
You can also swap applesauce for a similar fruit sauce like pear sauce or peach sauce (we love it this way)!
