Pickled White Onions – Quick & Easy Condiment!
For a delicious burst of flavor to your favorite dish, adding pickled white onions can make all the difference. Pickled onions can be thrown together in just a couple of minutes with only 4 ingredients and can elevate your cooking to the next level!

This past year, we had our first successful large onion harvest! We cured those onions so that they would store well and feed us all winter. With the influx of onions, it’s been fun to experiment with new ways to use them.
The hands-down favorite has been making these quick pickled white onions. We almost always have a jar of these ready to go in the fridge to add as a condiment on top of our favorite meals.

Pickled White Onion Ingredients
Apple Cider Vinegar or Distilled White Vinegar – Our favorite is using apple cider vinegar in these pickled onions for the sweet, tangy flavor they give, but white vinegar also works great!
Sugar – We like to use an organic cane sugar in this recipe for a very subtle sweetness that makes them oh so good!
Onion – Because we have white onions on hand, that’s what we’ve been making, but you could also make these with red or yellow onions.

How to Make Pickled Onions
Start by gathering your ingredients.
In a small saucepan over medium heat, mix vinegar, water, and sugar together until the sugar dissolves.
Slice the onion into rings and place in a quart sized mason jar.
Pour the vinegar mixture over the top of the onion, cover, and place in the fridge until ready to eat.
Pro Tip: Make sure onions are completely submerged in the brine for best results.

Pickled Onions Questions
– When will pickled onions be ready to eat?
We prefer to make them several hours before we plan to eat them. This allows those flavors to meld together and the onion will be softer and more mild. You can eat them right away for a crunchier onion with a more robust onion flavor.
– How long do they store in the fridge?
These pickled onions will last in the fridge for up to 2 weeks. Always make sure that the onions are completely submerged in the brine.
– Can I reuse the brine for another batch of pickled onions?
Unfortunately, no. You have to whip up a new batch of brine each time.
