Easy Yogurt Ranch Dressing for a Healthier Alternative
This homemade yogurt ranch dressing is a delicious, easy, and way healthier alternative to the bottled stuff. In just 5 minutes, you can stir up your own dressing with a handful of kitchen staples for all of your salad, dipping, and drizzling needs.

I’m going to say something that may be hard to hear. Those veggie trays with ranch dressing dip, that are typically served as the “healthier” snack option at parties, may not be as healthy as you might think.
It’s not because of the veggies. Store-bought ranch dressing is typically a cocktail of vegetable oils, water, cultured buttermilk, sugar, along with other stabilizers, flavor enhancers, thickeners, and preservatives. No thanks!
The good news, making your own ranch dressing is incredibly easy and delicious. With a yogurt base and some fresh or dried herbs, you’re on your way to making a delicious ranch, without the junk!

Yogurt Ranch Dressing Ingredients and Swaps
Yogurt – Plain, unflavored yogurt is what you are looking for. We like to use our homemade yogurt for this dressing. If you want a higher protein ranch, Greek yogurt is a great option. You may just need to thin the dressing with a bit of water.
Avocado Oil Mayo – With most store-bought mayonnaise being filled with vegetable oils, we always look for mayo made with avocado oil. It’s surprisingly easy to make yourself or brands like Chosen Foods make a great pure avocado oil option. You need to be careful to read labels because some mayos claim to be made with avocado oil but only use a small amount of avocado oil and cut it with vegetable oils.
Apple Cider Vinegar or Lemon Juice – Adding an acid to your ranch dressing helps to balance the richness and helps to make the subtle herb flavors really pop.

Onion Powder – You could substitute onion powder with fresh or dried chives if you have that on hand.
Garlic Powder
Fresh or Dried Dill
Fresh or Dried Parsley
Sea Salt
Pepper

How to Make Yogurt Ranch Dressing
This is quite possibly the easiest recipe on our site.
To make this easy, homemade ranch dressing, all you do is gather the ingredients and stir them together.
I like to start by mixing the yogurt, mayo, and apple cider vinegar or lemon juice. Then, add in all of your herbs and spices.

If the dressing is a little thicker than you prefer, use a tablespoon of water at a time to thin.
Voila—delicious yogurt ranch dressing!

Homemade Ranch Dressing Questions!
– How long does this ranch dressing store?
Of course, this yogurt-based ranch must be stored in the fridge. It will store well in an air tight container for up to 1 week.
– How do you increase the protein in this ranch dressing?
Use Greek yogurt instead of regular plain yogurt for a high-protein dip or dressing.
– Can you eliminate the mayonnaise all together?
Yes! You could make this recipe with only the yogurt and eliminate the mayo completely. With only yogurt, the end result will have a sharper, more acidic flavor. We prefer adding mayo because of the thick, creamy texture it gives and the way that it cuts that tanginess of the yogurt.
